The Augustów Canal is a unique water engineering work from the first half of the 19th century on a European scale.
It connects the tributaries of the Vistula River, namely the Narew and Biebrza, with the Nemunas. Located in Poland and Belarus (14 locks on the Polish side, 1 in the border zone, and 3 on the Belarusian side), it has a total length of approximately 103.4 km.
The Augustów Canal route includes 12 lakes. The differences in water levels between the individual reservoirs range from 0.8 to 9.8 meters.
Currently, the Augustów Canal is used as a picturesque waterway and is one of the most beautiful kayak routes in Poland. In addition, inland navigation ships also operate on the Augustów Canal.
